La cantatàpied

CREATION
european Culture 2000 program
à capella children opera
with Cours Julien musical school (Marseille)
and National Région
Conservatoire of Marseille.

from B. BARTOK et Z. KODALY

About the libretto
The libretto recalls historical facts :  » the children’ crusade « . In 1212, 30000 children walked away from North of France and of Germany, to free Jérusalem.
in 2001, the children left searching a holy secret instrument , embodied with surnatural powers and hidden in a remote country! ! The libretto reckons the story of their travel and quest, from their departure from the town to their arrival to the seaside.

Mise en scéne:

48 on stage and we look at a crowd, a demonstration, two rivals groups, a colomn, a ligne, a choir.

Singing is the cement of the performance , the choreography the basis of the construction of the Choryphee, as in forgotten times when danse and theater were deeply linked.

In the danse, a stage is never empty but shows invisible traces of a geometry which draws a circle, a ligne, a cliff, angles, a mountain, points, a forest, a river. This is a cantata, all the mouvements are sung a capella, in choir, with one or two voices and sometimes with an instrumental accompaniement.

 Musiques et textes

Words have been written by the children and adapted to the melodies chosen in Bartok and Kodaly’ pieces. These hungarisch composers have written a lot of music for children.
